As we get busier we want everything in an instant, especially when it comes to cosmetic results. Today more individuals are using anti aging supplements because they are a convenient way to replace lost nutrients and increase longevity. Long-term anti aging supplements are said to have various benefits.

Listed are some anti aging supplements and their effects:

· Vitamins - Vitamins taken as a daily supplement prevent deficiency diseases that reduce quality of life. Vitamin C also helps in the absorption of other supplements in the body.

· Antioxidants - We all need antioxidants to fight free radicals that harm our body. Antioxidants can do specific jobs for specific parts of the body. For example, the antioxidant glutathione is effective only in the liver. Supplements can be specific antioxidants or a combination of various antioxidants.

· Hormone replacement - Individuals suffering from hormonal imbalance or those who are concerned by decreasing hormone levels benefit from hormone replacements. Recent studies have shown that hormone replacement therapy lowered the risk of heart disease and acquiring dementia in women.

· Herbal stress relievers - Herbal anti aging supplements containing Hawthorne berries and linden flowers for example are claimed to have the ability to fight stress. It has been observed that stress weakens the immune system, which in turn causes aging. Herbal anti aging supplements attempt to reverse this process.

As we age, we may want to look younger as well as feel younger. Not only do we start losing our youthful appearance, but we also start to lose our sex drive. A hormone called testosterone is responsible for libido health, and they are now used in hormonal supplements for both men and women.

Hormones like melatonin and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) are also now taken as anti aging supplements. It is suggested by recent studies that melatonin can prevent several diseases and ailments such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Dehydroepiandrosterone on the other hand has been found to relieve depression and elevate mood.

Supplements can be toxic when taken in high doses, so a doctor’s recommendation is always advised. How much supplements an individual can take may also depend on diet and lifestyle.

Our bodies need adequate amounts of nutrients and antioxidants to battle free radicals that harm cells. Unfortunately, it is found that many of us are not even obtaining the required daily intake of nutrients from our diets alone. This is where supplements come in and replace some of those missing nutrients our bodies need to combat aging.

It is recommended to take adequate amounts of supplements for maximum anti aging results. If you are taking supplements but have a poor diet or lack exercise, you may be counteracting the supplement’s potency.

Whether or not taking anti aging supplements is more effective than applying topical treatments is not yet established. Though, it is found that anti aging supplements containing Alpha Lipoic Acid, which are known to increase levels of glutathione and ascorbic acid in the body, are effective whether taken orally or applied topically.
